Fueled by Failure: Dare to Fail. Dare to Succeed.
A world-champion skier, Jeremy Bloom missed his shot at Olympic gold. As an All-American football player, he saw his collegiate career put to a halt by the NCAA; then, side lined by injuries, he spent a frustrating period with the NFL. Now, with the help of these very triumphant defeats, he’s found his footing as an entrepreneur, CEO, and philanthropist.
Offering anecdotes and takeaways from his success missions in athletics and business, Bloom pulls at the common thread that unites him with us all and tackles the rarely discussed facets of failure relevant to reaching career and business goals. Sharing his story of public failures on the slopes and the gridiron, Bloom takes aspiring and early-stage entrepreneurs from the hilltops of Torino to NFL practice grounds, and onward through the struggles of startup, and reveals tactical secrets— personal and learned from popular business associates, coaches, and teammates—to surviving setbacks while searching for success.
Presenting lessons and practices illustrated by his story, which include NFL Hall-of-Famers John Elway and Mike Tomlin and Olympic champion Apolo Ohno, and insights and advice from respected business leaders including Tony Bates, Bill Maris, and Brad Feld.

"The cure for the modern business and self help culture in which all the obstacles are hidden or downplayed and the reader is left feeling hopeless. Finally there is someone who isn't afraid to say, 'You will fail, here's what to do when - not if - it happens.'"
Testimonials"Jeremy is one of the most compelling entrepreneurs I’ve ever worked with—actually, one of the most compelling individuals I’ve ever worked with. Always striving for the next goal, taking each setback as an opportunity to learn, surrounding himself with people he can learn from. Jeremy’s never-give-up attitude is infectious and makes him extremely effective."
—SETH LEVINE, Managing Director at Foundry Group, Integrate Board Member
"I took Jeremy snowboarding for his first time. He went from terrible to excelling in a matter of hours. Part of it was natural talent, but part was that he didn’t fear failing. The rest was sheer tenacity. That embodies how Jeremy goes about learning new things and this book reflects it. He’s done the research—practical and theoretical—and delivers great guidance on staying the course to reach success."
—BILL MARIS, President and Managing Partner at Google Ventures
"Jeremy recounts his journey from athletics to entrepreneurship with humility, sharing the back story behind his public defeats, and more importantly, revealing priceless lessons in competing for success. If you compete at anything—sports, business, or life—you need this book."
—SCOTT BLACKMUN, United States Olympic Committee CEO
"Jeremy has packed a lifetime of experience into 32 years. While he’s led an extraordinary life thus far, the ups and downs he’s experienced are something we can all connect with and learn from. His story is inspiring and the lessons he imparts are invigorating.
—TONY BATES, President of GoPro, Former CEO of Skype, Former VP of Cisco and Microsoft
"Jeremy is proof that mindset is everything. He brings together the best people and supercharges them with his unique energy. His Olympian work ethic and discipline works in the boardroom as well as it did on the ski slopes and football field. He will inspire you, too."
